FENCE COVERING WITH FIGURE by Mark Levinson
(Click on image for larger view)
(Click on image for larger view)
Mark Levinson says of his series, “Extracts”, I walk or drive around ordinary public places and seek out anomalies—seemingly minor, but unusual details, normally unnoticed and ignored— and photograph them. These are all straight photographs of real things in real places. But to me, the photos transcend their physical subjects and offer glimpses of a world that feels different—familiar, yet unexpected; a little off-kilter; somehow a bit strange, enigmatic, disorienting, or maybe just quirky."
Mark Levinson is a photographer living near Boston, Massachusetts. He studied photography at M.I.T. in the 1970’s and more recently at the Griffin Museum of Photography. His work has been exhibited nationally, including at the Colorado Photographic Arts Center, Griffin Museum of Photography, Praxis Gallery, PhotoPlace Gallery, Southeast Center for Photography, and several Massachusetts College of Art and Design annual benefit auctions, among others.
He photographed for many years as a volunteer for the Sudbury Valley Trustees, a Massachusetts land conservation organization. Many of his photographs of SVT properties and other lands they were working to protect have appeared on their web site and in their publications, and have been important aids to their conservation efforts.

TOURIST ROUNDER by Maureen Ruddy Burkhart
(Click on image for larger view)
(Click on image for larger view)
Maureen Ruddy Burkhart says, "During this particular trip to southern Spain and my resulting series "Capricho Espańol (Whimsical Spain)", I decided to leave my 35mm camera at home, taking only my trusty iPhone, allowing me to blend in rather seamlessly.
This experience showed me just how much I loved watching people enjoying their lives; It was as though I was enjoying my life vicariously. That degree of separation has intrigued me ever since.
I’ve traveled many places since then using a similar practice, but no matter what image-making tool, I definitely prefer a certain amount of whimsy."
Maureen Ruddy Burkhart is a fine art and documentary photographer based in Colorado. She had an international upbringing and this has surely played a role in her appreciation of people and places...and lives lived.
Having spent most of the last 30 years in Colorado (with its huge population growth) has given her a deep connection to and appreciation of the natural world.
She strives to capture the seemingly mundane yet whimsical nature of all living things.

URBAN EVENINGS by Michael Kelly-DeWitt
(Click on image for larger view)
(Click on image for larger view)
Michael Kelly-DeWitt says, "I use photography to explore common photographic subjects, but in doing so I attempt to subtly subvert the traditional representation of these subjects and suggest the disquiet of the larger world.
My architectural photography encompasses both the wide-angle composition of buildings and detailed photos that focus on the design patterns within a structure; however, in both instances I attempt to photograph my work in a manner that will keep the viewer’s gaze slightly off kilter.
Buildings (and details of buildings) are photographed at odd and sometimes unsettling angles, and are frequently shot in the harsh light of midday – thus accentuating the contrast between light and darkness. I find that this approach to composition, when combined with the choice of shooting in black and white, results in images of aesthetically beautiful or interesting structures that also suggest an underlying sense of unease."
Michael Kelly-DeWitt is a native of Sacramento, CA. His photography covers a range of subjects: landscapes and nature photography, architectural and industrial photography, and portrait and style photography.
In September 2019, his work appeared in the Viewpoint Gallery Solo Series: Three Points of View in Sacramento, California. His photography has also appeared in other shows and galleries nationally and internationally, including the Praxis Photo Arts Center, Black Box Gallery, PH21 Gallery, and the Southeast Center for Photography.

ATHLETE by Miguel Perez
(Click on image for larger view)
(Click on image for larger view)
Miguel Perez says, "Since my high school days in the 1970’s I’ve been fascinated by the power of the photographic image. It is the power to ignite epic tales in the minds of fellow humans.
Seeing an evocative image incites one to craft stories about the subject, the photographer, the captured moment. The photographer’s challenge is to compose, expose and finish an image that inflames the viewer’s imagination with the same burning narrative as the photographer’s. That is one of the the great purposes of art. That is my mission: To create images that foster a mind to mind connection between all who view them."
Solo Exhibits:
"UNITY" at Evoke Gallery, Los Angeles, CA
Miguel Pérez was born in San Jose, California; As the son of a middleweight boxing, lounge singing, big dreaming father and a music loving, green thumbed, black belt Catholic mother, he enjoyed a childhood filled with colorful people, unforgettable melodies, Catholic dogma and practical lessons in self defense. He can trace his love of photography to a high school photography teacher Vincent Bernucci, who was a noted Bay Area street photographer. Perhaps the teacher saw something in Miguel that no one else did because began assigning photo projects to the 9th grader. Miguel’s love of the medium has sustained to this very day.

HEROES JOURNEY by Nancy Oliveri
(Click on image for larger view)
(Click on image for larger view)
Nancy Oliveri says of her series, 'New York City in the time of Covid', "This collection of digital photographs are from an ongoing series shot from the iconic NYC observatories during various stages of Covid quarantine and recovery during 2021.
The locations include One Vanderbilt, the latest observatory at 14,001 feet called the Summit, the iconic Rockefeller Center, the Empire State Building and the One World Observatory. The subject of the photograph includes light, weather events, candid shots of strangers and the landscape of and architecture history to compose small fictions as a conceptual picture in time.
The First Image, Heroes Journey was taken from the new World Center tower on the 20th Anniversary of 911 marking the end of the War in Afghanistan after sundown. The white boat crosses the black and white shadow of the blue beams that are projected into the sky. I had a feeling of looking behind the curtain of reality and finding a transcendent spiritual plane when I took that shot.
The image titled In the Shadow of the Beast, May, 2021 is a slightly sepia toned image of the shadow of One World Trade Center cast on the urban landscape of lower Manhattan. I used a yellow, sepia tone because it suggested old newspapers, the past and present and which this image is about. There is also the idea of aggressive architecture and the fight for sky and light.
The Olympic Tower, May, 2021, shot from Rockefeller Center was inspired by Edward Hopper-without people due to the pandemic. It's a view of the Olympic Tower Building developed by Onassis in the 70's and focuses on shadow and the stylized details of the decor.
Skaters, was shot from the new observatory at One Vanderbilt. It's a traditional winter scene, familiar from the history of painting but contemporary in its references to early 1960's avant grade filmmaking.
Red Narcissus was taken on October 23rd, 2001 during the opening of the One Vanderbilt Observatory when figures are retuning to the frame during post-pandemic recovery. These are candid photos of people emerging from solitude who don't seem to know what they are and search for answers in self portraits in the Kenzo Design Mirrored Art Installation in the clouds.
Red Narcissus 2 is a candid crowd scene representing a natural choreography in the 6 foot distance rule.
I prefer to display urban architecture on metal rather than paper."

GRANDMOTHER PRAYING by Norman Aragones
(Click on image for larger view)
(Click on image for larger view)
Norman Aragones says, "The main paradigm in my photographic art revolves around the concept of depth (having some level of meaning within the photo and thus attempting to elicit a viewer's reaction through deliberate imagery).
My hope is that the viewer comes away with some feeling, idea, and/or perspective from seeing my photo(s). The techniques I use in creating photographic images are not something specific. I just try to work diligently in creating something in particular (that I had envisioned previously in my mind's eye)."
Norman was born in San Francisco, California. As a young person, he learned how important art was in his life. He was sickly throughout much of his childhood. Thus, he had to learn to use his imagination, and it fueled his creativity in art. Currently, he is experimenting with numerous photographic theories and techniques in an attempt to express ideas in a meaningful way visually.

FOREIGN OBJECT by Penelope Lenaerts
(Click on image for larger view)
(Click on image for larger view)
Penelope Lenaerts says, "My work discusses the relationship between body and space, and how we relate and communicate with each other, as individuals, and as a collective.
I feel that we are never truly complete in being and becoming; instead, we are moving and reacting. We are becoming a part of our environment, shifting, and changing with it, in an intimate relationship with our delicate world. I want to manifest curiosity and imagination in my artwork to share with other humans longing for different realities
My figurative photographs examine how we allow ourselves to flow naturally through time and space- how we force our way, and, at times, reject it all together. Through the application of materials to the body and mimicking surroundings, the figure attempts harmony with space, reacting and changing with it. The space responds, only through the interpretation of the one who experiences it.
I find inspiration through science and human history, and how these ideas interact with art to imagine combinations between form, color, space, and pattern. By mixing methods, like photography, painting, and sculpture, I honor my past and present as an artist. These works blend techniques to bring the familiar into the liminal, at the threshold of dream.
I am a California Artist based in Sacramento, CA, and a recent M.F.A Graduate from CSU, Fullerton. I studied painting and drawing throughout my undergraduate experience at CSU, Sacramento, and mix these methods with Photography to build unique spaces. I make work in my studio with models, often posing myself, and use a mix of digital and analog methods. I also make use of California's environments in my work, creating scenes in outdoor spaces that inspire my creativity."

URBAN CALM #128 by Peter Wiarda
(Click on image for larger view)
(Click on image for larger view)
Peter Wiarda says, "“Urban Calm” is a series of photographs depicting city scenes that invoke a sense of peace and order through architecture, geometry, and color.
The images feature a variety of architectural styles, industrial and utilitarian fixtures, functional and decorative elements; all representative of Salt Lake City’s urban core. This selection of images in vertical, horizontal, and square orientations exhibits a diversity of compositional style, each complimenting its subject’s unique topographies.
I began this ongoing series in 2018 when I started exploring the downtown and industrial areas of Salt Lake City, searching for scenes that inspire feelings of tranquility. As one who experiences anxiety, I found that composing, photographing, editing, and viewing these images calms and relaxes me. As both a therapeutic exercise and an artistic venture, I am not only making this work for myself, but also for others whose lives are affected by anxiety or related mental health conditions."
Peter Wiarda is a fine art photographer specializing in architectural, interior, abstract, and experimental photography. Interested in the craft from an early age, Peter made the leap from casual hobbyist to aspiring professional when he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from Utah State University in 2014. ANICHKOV BRIDGE by Polina Schneider
(Click on image for larger view)
(Click on image for larger view)
Polina Schneider says of her series 'You Haven’t Grown', "After immigrating with my mother to Germany in 1997, I have never been much around in the city of my childhood. The city that dried my tears when I was little with its soothing
sentinel statues, the pastellique house facades and the green parks. Petersburg's silhouette kept guarding me throughout my adolescence in Germany. In 2021, I decided to capture my memories visually.
Granite stones, parks, the bakery of my childhood with the same big hand brushes. It seems that nothing has changed in the last 25 years in Saint-Petersburg.The same people face the same hardships and seem to come up with the exact same ideas to overcome those.
An eternal swirl of memories, daily chores, growing ups and the numbing immortality of memories at home photographed from my seven-years-old self-perspective (circa 130 cm above the ground).
Born in St. Petersburg (Leningrad) in 1989 during the harsh times of the Perestroika and being raised in different languages, cultures and religious believes (Catholicism, Judaism and Russian Orthodox) has sharpen my instincts towards the way people communicate and how they interact with each other.
Always on the move, I am continuously fighting for my rights as a woman, as an immigrant, as a human being. Eager to learn faster and more than others, I was happy to have studied Chinese as a Foreign language and Computer Science, proving that languages and IT do not have to be a contradiction. After graduating with two Bachelor degrees in 2018, I recently came back to the university world: I am now studying photojournalism and documentary photography in Hanover.
Making use of the knowledge and tools that help me to tell my story visually, I joined the socially critical collective “Tuerspion” a
print medium where marginalized individuals are expressing themselves
creatively. Furthermore, I am participating in the International Environmental Photography Lab by the Native Agency (with exhibitions to come in 2022) and was chosen as an emerging artist by Women Art
Prize/X-Treme with a current exhibition in Berlin (still ongoing).
As a new member of the German female photo club, I am eager to promote the issues on which the association is based, namely: drawing attention to social wrongs, shaping public discourse and ensuring that the perspectives of women are seen by the public."

DO NOT CUT by Prescott Lassman
(Click on image for larger view)
(Click on image for larger view)
Prescott Moore Lassman says, "I am a photographer who focuses on black-and-white photography somewhere between street and documentary. I cannot “create” a good photograph to save my life, although I admire those who can. In order to come back with anything interesting, I have to hunt down and “capture” my photographs from the confused jumble of everyday life. When photographing, I search for images that resonate, for moments of synchronicity in everyday life.
Using an intuitive approach, I try to capture images that feel right and trust that the graphic elements and meaning of the photograph will follow. Because this approach relies on unconscious triggers, my photographs often are rich in symbols, though their meaning is not immediately clear (at least not to me). For me, this is the essence of photography capturing an image that resonates and then, over the course of months or years, figuring out why.
Because of my photographic approach, when I think of a city, I think mainly of its people, not its buildings. A city is a place where anything can happen from the quixotic to the surreal to the sublime because it is filled to the brim with humanity in all its wonderful variations.
The photographs in this series seek to capture some of those funny, quirky, or surreal moments that can only happen in a city."

Using an intuitive approach, I try to capture images that feel right and trust that the graphic elements and meaning of the photograph will follow. Rusty Weston says, "Pandemic-induced shelter-in-place requirements altered our lives, and our communities, in ways that not only revealed immediate disruptions but also hinted at more permanent transformations too.
There are rapid adaptations in the city's Mission district as residents strive to survive and feel a sense of community. There's a mix of connection and disconnection reflected in the Cerrado series shots and in my evolving assimilation of this prolonged experience."
Rusty Weston is a fine art photographer and content creator in San Francisco, Ca. He began studying photography as a teen and had a photo published in a San Francisco newspaper before he graduated from journalism school. Weston is a member of the Bay Area Photographers Collective.
