NOTE FROM JUROR:
"Thank you to everyone who submitted work for this competition. I asked photographers to look through their archives and submit what they felt was their strongest image. That is not always an easy task. We often have personal attachments to our photographs, but judging requires considering how an image communicates with someone who knows nothing about the story behind it.
During my two-month road trip across the country, I used the quieter moments along the way to carefully review every submission. The time and distance gave me the opportunity to live with the work, returning to it again and again before making my final selections. As I reviewed the entries, I found myself drawn to photographs that held my attention beyond the first glance. I was especially interested in images that created curiosity, emotion, or a sense of mystery.
I added the Juror’s Favorites because these five images remained with me long after the final selections were made. While they did not place in the competition, they deserve special recognition.
