Violeta Alvarez says of her series, ‘Curbside Memories’, "This year on August 26th, Hurricane Harvey hit Houston. The devastation left behind was ungodly. The deaths exceeded to 70 lost lives. Sunday morning around 6am I was on the phone trying to get through to 911 to have my boyfriend’s elderly parents rescued from the flood at their home. It took almost an hour to get through to dispatch. The water came up to their waist and Alex’s mother suffers from early stages of Alzheimer’s. He was very concerned for his parents well being. It took about 10 hours for rescue to finally pick them up by the Houston Fire Department. Wednesday, August 30th we decided to go check on the house and to see if the water had resided so we can see the damage and begin cleaning up from the storm. Driving through Houston’s the Meyerland neighbor was a horrific. By this day people in this area began to clean out their homes of their beloved memories, furnishings and pieces of the home all left on the curbside. This photo project is focus on the curbside memories destroyed by Hurricane Harvey.
