THE PORTRAIT by Marsha Guggenheim

Marsha Guggenheim says of her series, 'Without a Map',"My Mother’s death was too monumental for me to face or to understand at the age of ten.
In making this series, I have uncovered the pain and fear from those experiences and found some peace. Combining old family pictures with images I have created from my memories, I tell my story. Without a Map is about loss and healing."
Bio
Marsha Guggenheim is a San Francisco-based fine art photographer. Her passion for storytelling is evident in her portraiture and her street photography. Her pictures are imbued with a strong emphasis in color and light.Marsha focuses on long-term projects of every-day heroes. Her work with formerly homeless women resulted in the monograph, Facing Forward, where she highlights these women through portraits and stories of their life experiences.
Street photography provides the opportunity to work with a variety of people in diverse locations. These spontaneous moments offer a unique moment for a connection, always approached with interest and respect. Marsha is currently working on a new book, Without a Map, a personal story of loss and healing.
Marsha’s work is represented by the SFMOMA Artist Gallery and is included in numerous private collections. Her work is also shown in over 50 galleries and exhibitions and has been published in both domestic and international publications.
