Alysia Macaulay is a fine art photographer living in Boston, Massachusetts. 

Inspired by the power of an image, and the story it can tell, her photographs depict the subtle, poignant moments that occur within her family life, particularly in times of great challenge. 

Her work has appeared in numerous group shows, as well as, solo exhibitions at Umbrella Arts Gallery in New York City and The Griffin Museum of Photography in Boston.

Andrea Waxler says of her work, "Children change when entering the expanse of the pool. They seem to melt into a more serene version of their “land” selves.  Floating and gliding, thoughtful and quiet, these images portray a boy who liquefies and dissolves as he delves into his original and familiar environment-the watery womb. 

Glancing lights, swirls of color and unsure outlines represent the “other worldly” relationship that children have once they enter the water."

Ms. Waxler started her career in the areas of painting, sculpting and pottery. She was the founder and Director of the Art Studio at New Hampshire College in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Graduating from University of Pittsburgh with a BA in Fine Art, interest in photography led to coursework at New Hampshire Institute of Art and New England School of Photography.

Additional coursework has been completed at the Griffin Museum of Photography and the School for The Digital Arts.

Waxler's works have been shown, awarded and sold at multiple juried gallery exhibits including the Photographic Resource Center at Boston University, The Griffin Museum of Photography, PhotoPlace Gallery, LA Photo Curator Gallery, The Cape Cod Art Association, The Darkroom Gallery, The Moose Hill Gallery, Gallery25N and the Plymouth Center for the Arts.   

She is a Russell Gallery Juried Artist (the gallery is located in Plymouth, MA) an Exhibiting Member of the Vermont Center for Photography in Brattleboro, VT and a Juried Member of the New Hampshire Art Association. 

She was presented with the prestigious, International 10th Annual and 11th Annual Black and White Spider Awards Nominee for three of her images.

Additionally, her photos have been published in both print and online media in magazines such as "Chronicle of the Horse" and “Smokey Blue Mountain Literary and Arts Magazine”. 

Her work embraces a visual esthetic that demonstrates energy and intensity, organic, abstract shapes and vibrant colors with a twist of humor and mystery.

Niles says of his work, "I am a self taught photographer. I have taken photos for over 40 years, from film to digital, from wet darkroom to the digital darkroom of the computer. Photography is one way that I am able to experience the moment, suspend time and reconnect with myself. I am quite eclectic in the subjects I choose to shoot, anything is fair game.

Often there is an unseen element in the image that was not originally seen through my viewfinder. It is later discovered when viewing my images. I wonder, did I subconsciously see it. Is that why I took the image? My wish is that my imagery creates an intimate conversation that takes the viewer to a place of quiet contemplation because it is my visual representation of conversation and feelings.  

My photography creates a legacy of all the sacred and beautiful things that I am privileged to experience in my time here. The fragility of life is a catalyst for me to do what I can to preserve it one frame at a time and in doing so I hope that it says that I too existed.

I was born in Norfolk, Virginia and raised in small North Carolina towns, I currently live in Fayette County, Georgia."

David Quinn says of this series,"'What Remains' captures the dramatically altered landscape created by the sand and gravel operations prevalent in Port Jefferson Harbor in the 1920’s and 30’s.

At the time this activity was very controversial with some individuals heralding it as an economic boon while others attacked it as an environmental disaster.

Now the man-made cove offers a safe haven for boats and the park offers a quiet refuge for hikers wishing to find a quiet beach and a view of Long Island Sound.

Nevertheless, the remains of the abandoned foundation of the processing plant, the docks, and dredging structures are sobering reminders of how man greatly altered this natural environment.

Over the years, my interests have primarily centered on creating landscape and botanical images with an occasional venture into architectural and street photography.

In many of my photographs I strive to evoke an emotion, raise an uncertainty or create a sense of movement either by isolating key elements or by blurring the subject matter. My work has been exhibited in over 125 shows in 15 states and Spain and Hungary."

After moving to New York City in the fall of 2016, Em Watts purchased her first film camera and began to document the new sights and sounds she encountered every day.

She focuses predominantly on film photography, but she occasionally shoots videography.

As a full-time student at St. Joseph’s College, Em draws much of her inspiration from the brownstones lining the streets of Clinton Hill, the ‘wildlife’ in Fort Greene Park, and the old library book cards located in McEntegart Library.

She has recently had her photography featured by Fleur Mag. Em’s subjects range from flash street photography to double exposures of nature scenes.

However, she always carries her camera with her, for she is a strong believer in “seeing what I like and liking what I see."

Watts says of her work, "These photos reflect my ongoing transition as I become more aware of myself and the world around me.

Double exposure shots using a Pentax K1000 and a Minolta Freedom AF 35 create the feeling of being in two places at once. The eyes travel back and forth between the two images being presented, and the viewer becomes aware of the different environments manifesting within the photo.

Eventually, the images combine and the two unique locations become one, similar to how I feel as I uncover new places. As I have discovered different places, I have found that there is always one constant: water.

Moving from the city of three rivers to just two blocks away from the East River, water has always been something I seek for comfort.

Like humans, water has emotion. Water maintains a rhythmic balance that is perceptible to the eye and possesses a therapeutic nature as its body moves.

The waves express their feelings with the depth of their crests and troughs, and within the composition of these photos, they show the perpetual comfort I feel as I learn more about myself, my adapting environment, and the ubiquitous water that always follows."

James Cooper says of his work, "Suggestive of the American modernism Precisionism movement, the work is characterized by the reduction of compositions to simple shapes and underlying geometrical structures, with clear outlines, minimal detail, unexpected viewpoints and framing, and an emphasis on the abstract form of the subject.
 
In the style of American Precisionists, the subjects are from the American landscape, regional American culture, and long-familiar American scenes, such as agricultural structures and domestic architecture. Even conventional motifs are treated in this style. Precisionists also showed the influence of recent work by American photographers, such as Paul Strand, who were utilizing sharp focus and lighting, unexpected viewpoints and cropping, and emphasis on the abstract form of the subject.
 
"Artist friends would say to me, snickering a little, 'What can a camera do in making art. It is just a camera'. Then one of them asks for help in making an image with a camera (a backlit telephone pole with just the foot pegs lit). We made it, he showed it at Otis (College of Art and Design) and people said 'Wow, that's cool'."
 
By using just a camera and film, and not altering the film image in printing a photograph, what kind of images can be made?
 
Really the image should be an experience. It should shift you. Make you smile maybe. Remember when you were a child how a simple little thing could galvanize your entire being - time stood still and you felt totally connected to the world - there was a feeling of total contentment? And, an image made with film has a feel to it.
 
The photograph should be an accurate record of what the camera and film captured, with the absolute minimum disturbance of the captured image during the processing and finishing stages. A transparency film image processed through standard chemistry is the paradigm for an unmanipulated image. So, just a camera and some film."

Jessica Strachan says of her work, "Deep in the wells of Delhi during the evening of the national festival of Holi, the Sikh community gathers to worship within their temple. Here, water is essential to worship, renew and draw nearer to God.

Reverence of water runs through the veins of this minority religion; passing through the daily ritual of washing, cleansing upon entering a temple, drinking from a blessed source, ceremonial rites of passage, and even releasing a deceased loved one's ashes into a canal or river. 

Within their temple, called a Gurdwara, Sikhs come together to replenish their souls through the pools, streams and splashes of holiness.

Here we see an intimate moment as a woman reaches gently into the inner pool – or sarovar, parents baptizing their child at sunset, and a woman bearing the word “HOPE” across her fingers pouring water into the cupped hands of bowing devotees who are eager to sip.

Everyone is welcome to take part appreciating the wonders of the water, regardless matter of ethnic, religious or socioeconomic background; age, identity or affiliation. All are invited to behold the tears of God, connecting with Him and with one another in this place, where water never loses its purity."

Jessica Strachan is an award-winning journalist and photographer in Detroit, Michigan. She earned her master's degree in social sciences and bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Michigan. Strachan is a human rights activist with an incurable case of wanderlust, love of street photography, and knack for getting lost with perfect strangers who become longtime friends. She enjoys catnaps in a beam of sunlight, farm-fresh foods and brag-worthy coffee.
 

Katy Parks Wilson says of her work, "In these images of Big Sur sea goddess Neptuna, from my series NUDES AND BEACHES, I present my attempt to capture beauty and hold it still for a moment… as moonbeams in the hand are waves on sand.

Over the years walking the beaches of California, returning again and again to beloved spots, I’ve found that there have never been two days that the beach looks the same.

Just as a woman can be ravishing one day, forlorn the next, savage and gentle, fragile and then and yet incredibly strong, the mood of my coast can never be limited, possibilities exhausted.

Here is a celebration of the feminine spirit cycling through its ideas as manifested in a woman’s body teasing and being teased by a rollicking sea, on its journey to the infinite."

Katy Parks Wilson is a Southern California-based fine art photographer whose work has taken her around the world, but she continually comes back to her favorite subject, Three Arch Bay in Laguna Beach.

Since her grandfather bought a tiny house overlooking one of the most gorgeous beaches on the planet in 1962, and she began spending time there, she has been enchanted with the everchanging moods and light geography of this single place.

First she interacted with her sanctuary by building sand castles and body-surfing, eventually it evolved into documenting its seasons and elusive beauty with photographs. She has a collection of images from this beach that span over 20 years. The images here capture some of Three Arch Bay’s magical variations of color, texture and light as the explore the line between detail and abstraction.

As an Art/Photography teacher in the Los Angeles school district, journalist and event photographer, Katy has immersed herself in disparate cultures and places. Her work encompasses abstracts, graffiti, urban landscapes, still lifes, and portraits as well as land/seascapes.

As a natural storyteller, she uses photography to document a moment, evoke a sense of place, or simply take a closer look.

Rather than manipulating the subject, she plays with the  facility of the camera pushing in for a close-up, working with the light, considering different angles or experimenting with processing options to complete the final image. The result:
Timeless yet unconventional images that command attention.

Parks Wilson has had six solo exhibitions in Los Angeles, including a recent show of Cuba images at the  Perfect Exposure Gallery in Koreatown, and one at Beyond Baroque in Venice.

She has also participated in many group shows, has been commissioned by various hotels, hospitals and corporate clients television to create custom images, and regularly licenses her images for film and TV production companies to use as set decoration. Her work has appeared in, among others “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” “Criminal Minds,” “The 40 Yr. Old Virgin,” “Shameless,” and “Rock of Ages.”

Lisa Cohen says of her work, "This mixed media tintype series began as my response to the 2016 presidential election and all the talk about building a wall to keep “undesirables” out of our country.

It made me think about my heritage and how my family came to the United States in the early 1940s as refugees from WWII, as “stateless former Germans.” My mother has told me stories about her Jewish family’s escape from Berlin when she was a young child. She and her four siblings were taken in by families in France and Holland, who hid them during the war until they were able to leave Europe.  They travelled by boat, “The Winnipeg”, to St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands, and from there to Puerto Rico and then to Ellis Island. I uncovered photographs of my family from before this period, which inspired this series.

In the photographs I found, the children seem innocent and happy, living normal lives, not knowing what was to come. I am struck by how similar things seem today, and how vulnerable families must feel about the unknown future of our country."

Lisa Cohen is a Boston-based freelance photographer.  She is a graduate of Clark University, where she received a BA in Psychology and a minor in Art.
