Curator Lisa Gizara says of this work, "My grandmother was a poor polish immigrant and arrived via Ellis Island after the Prussian invasion of her village. Having soldiers take over their farm, their lives were constantly at stake, as the soldiers ate all of their food and livestock and threatened to kill them if they didn't provide more. My family was able to escape, via
steamship two years later, poor, starving and shaken to the core.

This photograph perfectly captures the loneliness, sadness and isolation of the human condition. This portrait could have been taken in Serbia last week, or in Poland 100 years ago. In portraiture the dance between catching a silent moment or in capturing an engaging gaze is a split second decision.

This portrait captured a timeless moment in the journey of a small girl, one that can be identified with by any human being subject to difficulties."

Trish Reschly says of her work, "Emotion is common to all human experience. I have always felt deeply, seeking to understand why emotions interconnect experiences & how they develop us into the people we are and will become.

In my work, I seek to express those deep-rooted emotions in the bodily form of children, my children.  While my work is deeply personal, I hope it will also be very accessible to the whole of humanity.

I approach photography in both a fine art and documentary manner.  Allowing my subjects to follow the path before them without interruption in order to capture the essence of the moment within their frame and mine.

While I watch and take in the moments played before my eyes, my mind and heart are working together with purpose to form an expressive work.  Much like a sculptor looking at marble or the craftsman assessing the wood before him, the surrounding world is my raw material to form and shape."
