Christos J. Palios says of his series, “Wisdom Evanescent, “As one of only four family members in the United States, childhood comprised an abundance of my parents’ stories from their former lives in Greece. Between their sentimental recollections and brief annual phone calls to relatives during essential holidays, my insatiable imagination largely defined extended family. Although photo albums helped fill memory gaps, adolescence eventually gave way to intercontinental visits. These trips to meet elders I fondly recalled from childhood tales—a generation in advanced age I’ve missed on account of parental immigration—invariably imbued me with a desire to examine lineage and ancestral bonds.

During an interaction with my only living grandfather, I observed myself attempting to piece together traces of his life, moments I could not know. The impulse to understand facets of his narrative—his tether to life, his moorings in time—was magnified compared to viewing photographs of him back home. As we evolve, we unconsciously view portraits with emotional bias and ancestral knowledge accumulated through time. As my visits increased, I began to explore family history and interpretive memory by gathering connections to fill those voids. This process linked me with my kin, while also pushing and pulling upon notions of subjective history and cultural identity.

The specter of possibility they may not be sitting before me at the next visit was of course compelling. I thought about how on a single human face, a profusion of experience and wisdom, is concealed behind time and its lines of senescence. My relatives took to modest, yet dignified composure in the comfort of their homes; they acquiesced for posterity with determination, pride, and unbreakable focus. These photographs emerge as distillations of memory, while they ascertain my roots and compress years into single moments.

I fondly recall a captivating observation by photographer Thomas Struth: When you look at family photographs, you understand through the traces something of what was going on, of the social structure of the time. The traces of structures, social and psychological, are legible.”

As a first-generation Greek-American, Christos' perspectives were shaped by two disparate and fascinating cultures. The artist's practice is born from a wellspring of inspiration among themes of memory, connection, and identity, consummated by intimate examinations of history, architecture, and socioeconomics. Employing multifaceted approaches rooted in research and with an appreciation of metaphorical and physical space, the artist's photographs evoke compelling, palpable awareness through distinct narratives and cohesive aesthetics. For as long as Christos can recall, photography’s remarkable capacity to communicate ideas and narratives inspire the artist to embody insight and intent within the frame. He has pursued my fine art full-time since 2006.

Ingrid Sampaio/Untitled01

Ingrid Sampaio says, “I’m a 33-year-old artist from Teófilo Otoni, Minas Gerais, Brazil, currently living in Woburn, MA. My journey to the United States in 2011 in search of better opportunities led me to found Ingrid’s Team LLC, a cleaning company that empowers seven women. This venture has been a catalyst for my personal growth, guiding me towards a mission-driven path as an artist. My focus is on capturing the essence of people within their environments, striving to cultivate empathy and understanding. The challenges I faced as a cleaner in a new environment shaped me into a resilient artist, passionate about narrating individual stories and fostering connections among people.

Influenced by the meaningful work of Sebastião Salgado, who brings awareness to the lives of his subjects, and Richard Avedon, known for his unique approach to portraiture, I specialize in digital photography, mainly focusing on portraits in black and white.

My work has been recognized and published in platforms, such as Tell Magazine, Spring 2023, featuring my photography on its cover and inside, showcasing the vibrant community of BHCC through original artwork, poems, stories, and essays.

My "Project Humanity" series captures the human faces of people experiencing homelessness in Boston, aiming to present a more personal view of this issue. Additionally, my photographs were selected for the Haiti Foundation Newsletter in Fall 2022, highlighting moments from the "Building Hope Together" gala event, distributed internationally to supporters and donors.

My current project, "Our Journey," aims to raise awareness of immigrants' experiences and highlight their positive contributions to our society.

Through my art, I aspire to narrate stories similar to mine, focusing on societal issues with the hope of fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for the diverse experiences that enrich our world."

Leanne Trivett S./Breeding Curves, self portrait-2

Leanne Trivett S. says, “I am a visual artist that uses photography to narrate and construct identity in Experimental Self Portraiture, to explore subjects in emotional abstract, and to create images that show how details and color interact in the world.

My theatrical and vocal performance background inspires me to explore psyche, spirit, ego, and soul: creating current characters with personal and dynamic stories.

I like to capture scenes from my play, and I also like the out takes.  It is my desire to connect to the viewer in a meaningful way by exploring multiple sides of me: the light and dark, the quiet and the movement, and the smooth and textured.

I use my camera and eye for detail to visit the complicated fringe of my personality and my relationships. Every photo I take is a part of my curiosity and “double” inner world. I seek a connection to self and the audience in that space of duality, building a bridge through emotion and humanity.

All images are created from photos I take with my cameras and I use multiple exposure, intentional camera movement, and blurr to support my narrative.”

Leanne Trivett S. graduated with a BFA in Theatre from Tisch School of the Arts at New York University in NY, NY.

Her background in musical theatre and her experience performing as a professional singer have inspired her creation of characters and self expression through images and photography.

She is best known for her colorful and current self portraits and her work with florals. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally in venues like the Los Angeles Center for Photography, the Griffin Museum of Photography in Boston, PH21 Gallery in Budapest, etc. Her Work has been published and can be seen on the cover and in several issues of Art Ascent International Magazine, ARTDOC Magazine, Dodho Magazine in Barcelona for Monochrome, Color, Portrait, and Fine Art Awards in 2022, 2023, 2024, several editions of Black & White Magazine, and in multiple special edition exhibition books.

She was chosen as Winner and Honorable Mention for The 18th and 20th Annual Julia Margaret Cameron Awards for Women Photographers in 2022 and 2023, placed second in People and Portraits for Digital Photo 2022, received honorable mention in the ND Awards,  and is teaching at Sante Fe Workshops, SE Center for Photography, Chicago Botanic Garden, and Pacific Northwest Art School on Whidbey Island near Seattle.

She spends her free time traveling and creating in her artist studio near Asheville, NC.

Lynda Braun/Stories I Tell Myself-2301a

Lynda Fay Braun creates what she refers to as digital paintings by layering digitally enhanced photographs that were taken on walks around the preserve where she lives in Southwest Florida. She brings to her artwork a sensibility developed over a lifetime of painting and years of meditation that included a year spent with her spiritual teacher in India.

To find order and a sense of spirituality in the chaos of life drives her artistic research. This has taken her process from the creation of large paintings to the more recent mixed media work.

Lynda spent her early years between the rugged environment of the Adirondacks and the museums of New York City. A natural attraction toward the ineffable combined with an affinity towards nature and an independent spirit compelled her to seek a life in art.

After undergraduate studies at Cooper Union School of Art, and an MFA in Painting from Cornell University, Lynda received a residency at the Wurlitzer Foundation in Taos, NM. There she was able to continue an informal mentorship with artist, Agnes Martin, well-known for her minimalist grid paintings. This relationship, which continued until Martin’s passing, served as a touchstone for Braun’s approach to art.

Lynda’s paintings and prints are in numerous corporate, and public collections including Neiman Marcus Collection, The Ritz Carlton Collection, von Liebig Art Center, Naples, FL, and Cornell University Permanent Collection.

Lynda's digital work from 2016 to 2023, was on view at BIG ARTS (Barrier Island Group) Cultural Center on Sanibel Island, FL.

Highlights of her career so far are the LensBaby Award, Rfotofolio Photography Award Selections, Rfotofolio Selections Award, "Depth of Field" exhibition, Center for Photography, Carmel CA. Inclusion in "Color" at the Southeast Center for Photography, juror Diane Bloomfield, "Your Daily Photograph", online Duncan Miller, "Seeing the Unseen", Atlantic Gallery, NYC, curated by Judith Kruger, "Serenity," LA Curator International competition, curated by Wendi Schneider.

Lynda currently resides in Naples, Florida.

Lynda Braun says, the  "Stories I Tell Myself" series started a good 50 years ago when I had a daily practice writing in a journal. Many years later after numerous moves carrying a box full of these journals from living space to the next, I decided, since I didn't have the heart to throw them out, I would tear up the pages into unreadable pieces and make collages. Transforming a life of experiences into an art form. The resulting collages were large, 48 x 54". I titled the series "A Life". Two years ago Hurricane Ian struck the southwest coast of Florida where I live, taking down, thinning out, and defoliating the massive trees on the property I call home, I found the stripped tortured trees had a beauty to them that spoke of grace in the face of adversity and age.

Not unlike the stories in the journals that also spoke of the same kind of grace under adversity, I combined the two bodies of work and am developing a series called "The Stories I Tell Myself", which is after all what our memories are."
