Suzanne Williamson:

"I am a fine art photographer creating images and installations of the landscape that reveal how it has been altered, celebrated, or degraded through human intervention. For years, I have been creating image sequences that are or seem to be seconds apart. I have photographed at sunrise near the water’s edge, interested in expanding our notions of time and perception. I create composite works that combine images into elusive, dream-like stories. In 2022 the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts, Tampa, mounted my solo exhibition, The Language of Light. My photographs have been exhibited in juried group shows in such venues as Griffin Museum, SE Center for Photography, Center for Fine Art Photography, and Colorado Photographic Arts Center. My photographs are in the collections of Bibliothèque Nationale; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and HCC Art Galleries among others. I am a current member of the New York Artist's Circle based in New York City.

I studied anthropology and photography at SUNY College at Purchase, and photography at ICP- International Center of Photography. I learned to appreciate photography's power to persuade while managing a private photography collection in New York, which was later donated to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston as The Allan Chasanoff Collection. I have been Photo Editor of ARTnews magazine, and a member of the curatorial team at the Tampa Museum of Art. I was also a member of the volunteer collective, Here is New York, that formed the 9/11 photography exhibit in downtown New York City, and produced the exhibit book.

My latest work is a reflection of the turbulence which has increased globally since the days of the pandemic. We witness the evidence of climate change and environmental degradation, along with social, political, and environmental stresses that feed our inaction as we drift above the waters of denial. I combine my photographs with elements of sky, earth, and water from the shorelines of Florida. Working with natural and augmented colors, images of surging water, suns and cloud streaks, tv’s, birds, and flowers, I find a terrible beauty in these moments as I combine them into landscapes of disruption. The images express hardened lines and inner turmoil that so many of us feel in our uncertainty about life in the present day. I have sent you three works/images which contain pictures in a vertical narrative from one of these series: either Social Disruption (UNDERTOW) or Climate Catastrophe (CLIMATE DRIFT.)"

Anne Staveley and Jill Sutherland are soul sister artists on a journey to connect people through the power of photography that breaks beyond the barriers of screens, pages, and frames.

Their collaboration has taken the form of evocative portraiture, large-scale murals, and interactive art installations.

Staveley & Sutherland’s Circle of Doors Tarot has touched the lives of thousands of people from around the world, inviting them to step inside a structure of twenty-two doors, each depicting a major arcana of the Tarot deck through ethereal portraits of powerful women.

Anne lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico
Jill lives in Topanga, California,

Project Statement:
Circle of Doors Tarot began as a series of 22 photographs, portraits of women portraying the major arcana cards of the Tarot deck.

The series formed the basis of a large-scale interactive art installation that premiered at Burning Man 2014 as an Honorarium Grant recipient.

The installation has been exhibited at arts and culture festivals along the west coast, including The PASEO Outdoor Art Festival in Taos, New Mexico, and Global Eclipse Gathering in Big Summit Prairie, Oregon.

The series was expanded with 56 additional photographs to represent the minor arcana cards, and an expanded version of the installation returned to Burning Man 2022, again as a recipient of an Honorarium Grant.

Prescott Moore Lassman:

"I am a photographer based in Washington, D.C. focusing mainly on black-and-white photography — somewhere between street and documentary with a strong dose of minimalism for good measure.  My subject matter and interests are eclectic, but my approach is mostly intuitive. I search for images that resonate, for moments of synchronicity in everyday life. Because this approach relies on unconscious triggers, my photographs are often richly symbolic, though their meaning is not immediately clear (at least not to me).  For me, this is the essence of photography: capturing an image that resonates and then, over the course of months or years, figuring out why.
The photographs submitted to this call are from a recent trip to Ireland. I could write volumes about them but, given the theme of this competition, I’ll let the photographs speak for themselves."

Martha Clarkson/ Alternate realities

Martha Clarkson:

"People are like fingerprints, basically the same but uniquely different. Each has a story. To capture a photo that has the potential to spark curiosity in the viewer is the perspective of this series. Three men have a conversation, but there's only two people on a bench. One person's home is another's means of transport. A homeless person sleeps in a trompe l'oeil that is clearly not his reality, any more than the artwork is reality. And then there's the people getting what they want - a cocktail and a dessert, a quiet time in a back alley with a Clifford dog, payment for services. People all want something and there are stories about how they got where they are, whether true, or our creation."
