TIDES 1 by Sarah Robinson

Sarah Robinson says, "Its inevitable that our life will be full of changes, wins and loses, ups and downs. A personal struggle for me has been to celebrate all aspects of life, not just the beautiful and noteworthy parts. I seem to fight against the tide of my down days, rather than embracing them as part of a larger picture. Fighting against the struggle, rather than facing it head on, means no progress is being made; you cannot ignore or forget the downfalls and expect them to turn into something better. Rather than fighting against my faults, I'm learning to face them head on, realizing that its ok to not be perfect, but it's not ok to ignore your underlying problems."

Sarah Robinson is currently a student at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where she will graduate with a degree in Design with an Emphasis in Photography in December of 2019. Her passion lies in Alternative Process and Film photography, along with Documentary Portraiture. She plans on Pursuing a Masters in Photography after she graduates. Her work has been recognized nationally and internationally.

MEMORIES FULL OF FORGETTING #1 by Seungwon Jung
(Click on image for larger view)

Seungwon Jung says, "Seungwon Jung’s practice is focused on how people perceive time and past in the context of space. She explores the distortion and gap we sense in time – skipping and stretching temporal distance within the coordinates of our timeline.

Photography serves as a means of flux in Jung’s ongoing exploration of how perception situates time in relation to space. Taking into consideration where digital imagery can intersect with different form of materials, she has a multiform practice that includes photography, textile, sculpture, and video.

Space can be found in the most concrete of objects—but there is also intangible space, gaps in our own cognitive processes: memory distortions often mislead our own beliefs of the past, and our understanding of the pathways in the human brain is still incomplete.

Memories Full of Forgetting (2017-2018) focuses on how people perceive memory in the context of space. I print fragmental photographic images on fabrics, destruct them by removing the threads and again stitch them back, collected the fragments layer by layer. Empty space and accumulation is central to my work. I begin with a complete object—a length of fabric—and chip away it’s physical presence.

Through the creation of empty space and accumulation, I consider the gaps in our existence, memory and consciousness. The pulled out threads embody both the process of forgetting as well as the imperfect form of retained memories.

By stitching back the extracted strands, reminiscences gather to reconstruct a storage of oblivion full of memories. My process highlights the omissions in our knowledge, but also the ways their remaining traces can unconsciously influence how we shape the past."

(Click on image for larger view)

Shawna Gibbs is a photographer and conceptual artist based in New Hampshire.

Her work has been published in Communication Arts Photography Annual 2017, PDN Photo Annual 2015 and American Photography; has been exhibited at the Institute for Contemporary Art, Boston; Currier Museum of Art; Minneapolis Photo Center; AVA Gallery; Panopticon Gallery; and can be seen on several prominent websites including Fraction Magazine and Lenscratch.

These photographs are part of an ongoing series, "Animal Instincts", where I observe my young children learn to understand patience and compassion as they interact with nature and wildlife in our backyard. I've chosen to present these three images from the series because they share the literal and figurative subject of the unassuming, yet ever intriguing, backyard worm."

Traci Marie Lee says, "In her work she is interested in the implications and consequences of the Snapshot and the Constructed Image on memory construction and preservation.

The compulsion to excavate and curate leads to finding new methods of holding onto brief, constantly changing realities, as well as confronting her own tendencies and obsessive drive to collect, as a process of examining loss."

Traci Marie Lee is a graduate of the Corcoran College of Art + Design in Washington, D.C., with a BFA in Fine Art Photography, as well as a Master in Fine Arts graduate with an MFA in Photography and Integrated Media from Lesley University College of Art & Design in Cambridge, MA.

RAPT by Caroline Waterman
(Click on image for larger view)

Caroline Waterman says, "When I first decided to leave my country, a girl from Germany gave me a piece of advice, she told me to be sure of what I was doing. She warned me that some day I could find that I no longer belonged anywhere.

At the time I could not know how right she was. My connection to the place I grew up was so strong that when the homesickness took complete hold of me I felt lost. My roots were severed. The connection to a place, the memories of times spent there, and the feeling of peace and belonging are very much a part of who I am.

The resentment I felt about losing that inspired me to seek a new connection to the place I now call home. In this series of photographs, I combine images from my childhood home , and from my home now. I have photographed them in the same way, reaching past the noise and connecting to the peace and nostalgia that is at the heart of my love for them."

Caroline Waterman grew up in Dublin Ireland.

She moved to the United States in 1986 & lives in Charlotte, NC with her husband and three children.   She took film photographyclasses in Dublin in the1980's & again in Boston; she completed her BFA in Photography at UNCC in May 2016.

Zoie Kasper says, "Working primarily with 35mm film, I aim to bring about a dreamlike and nostalgic atmosphere in my imagery while magnifying feelings of serenity and solitude.

I am interested in visualizing the human experience through an ethereal window. Analog photography brings me further away from distractions and closer to capturing otherworldly moments.

I was born in Atlanta Georgia in 1992, but spent a majority of my upbringing in Washington State. In 2014, I received my Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts from Washington State University. I am currently based in Eindhoven, Netherlands."
