L.A. PHOTO CURATOR: Call for Entry

THEME: 'In the City'

CURATOR: Juliet Haas
https://www.juliethaas.studio/
Juliet Haas (b.1969) is a Sacramento, California based photographer, curator, Open Show Sacramento producer and founder of critique group PHOTO Sacto.

Haas has been a project manager as well as guest curator at Daniel Miller's YourDailyPhotograph.com

Originally a black & white film photographer and commercial film lab proof printer for commercial celebrity photographers, Juliet left her passion for image making for a number of years rather than move into the digital DSLR evolution. She finally picked up her craft again in 2005 when her 3D Character Animator and Musician Father passed and she inherited a Nikon D-70 and a laptop and learned photography all over again in this new medium of computer technology.
Drawn to solitude and detritus, shape, light and darkness, dramatic weather and cinematic landscape, Juliet’s imagery focuses on finding the beauty in the mundane, abandoned structures and objects that go mostly unnoticed.

Juliet's work has been exhibited in galleries across the US including Los Angeles Center of Photography, Sparrow Gallery and Viewpoint Gallery in Sacramento, Portland's Black Box Gallery, PACE Center Gallery for MOP Denver, SE Center for Photography, SXSE Gallery in Molena GA, New York's Foley Gallery, Griffin Museum of Photography, and in the 2021 Center for Photographic Art in Carmel for the 2021 Internation Juried Exhibition.

International exhibitions include the 14th Annual Julia Margaret Cameron Award and Exhibit at FotoNostrum Gallery in Barcelona, Matca Gallery in Hanoi, Vietnam, and the Tokyo Internation Foto Awards Exhibit 2021.

'IN THE CITY':
Juliet Haas says, "Not all of us live in a City, but I’m certain most of us have at one time in our lives crossed the threshold from moutainous terrain, or embarked on a desert adventure, and slowly re-entered an awe inspiring landscape of buildings and activity unfold from that place of silence before your eyes.

It can be a striking transformation of emotion to witness a skyline of glass and metal highrise against a pre-dawn mountain backdrop with thick black clouds flowing across the scene after a solid night of rain. It heightens the senses and quickens ones pulse to descend through the clouds on a flight into a sea of glittering lights and streams of movement below, and it has always made me feel HOME.

Whatever The City means to you, that jaw dropping black shadow across gleaming asphalt and a rush of pedestrians downtown, a fantastic grafitti’d mural setting the tone of an architectural environment, wild neon reflecting into a public fountain at midnight, the construction of the new and modern invading an old neighborhood, or an out of place object set against a Boardwalk Beach, We want to see it."
